Lions Clash returned for its second edition, a thrilling Rocket League tournament by UK esports organization Lionscreed, uniting top student gamers from across the country in a battle for glory. Building on the established identity from the first event, I was tasked with reworking the stream assets to enhance the viewer experience, deepen fan engagement, and spotlight the talent of the participating teams. The goal was to create a broadcast that not only captured the excitement of the competition but also fostered a stronger connection between fans and their university teams.

A key focus was elevating fan investment, and I proposed a unique solution: collaborating with 13 UK universities to design custom Rocket League car liveries for each team. These bespoke 3D car designs replaced traditional player photos in Lions Clash media, making each team visually distinctive and giving fans a more immersive way to cheer for their university’s success. The 3D models offered endless creative possibilities for compositions and layouts, but I established a strict set of design rules to ensure the event’s identity remained coherent, balancing innovation with consistency.

The broadcast assets were rebuilt from the ground up, adhering to these new design rules to spark excitement and keep fans updated on the action. I designed dynamic elements like overlays and transitions to capture the high-energy spirit of Rocket League, while also creating custom lower thirds for sponsors to seamlessly integrate their presence throughout the stream. The custom car liveries became a centerpiece, featured prominently in the media, bringing a fresh, engaging visual layer to the viewer experience. The result was a captivating, memorable tournament that deepened fan engagement, celebrated student talent, and set a new standard for Lions Clash as a leading student esports event.
